Runner on third.  Batter hits the ball to shortstop, who after holding the runner, decides not to throw the ball to first.  Is this scored as a hit, or as a fielders choice since the fielder chose not to throw the ball?

Thanks,

Assuming it was a routine ground ball, I'd score a Fielder's Choice.  The batter is not safe because he hit a ball that could not be fielded, he is safe because the runner chose to hold R3 at third.

P.S.  The shortstop should have a little more confidence in his team's defense.

Thanks.  This is 8 yr olds.  We were batting, by the time the short stop looked back the runner (which took a little longer than it should have after double pumping towards 3rd)  he wouldnt have made the throw on time.

Thanks,
